Things people actually ask
Can I keep my existing phone number?
Yes. Hand us your current carrier and account details at signup. We do the port. It's free. The actual switchover takes 7–10 business days — both lines ring during the transition so nothing falls through.
What if the power goes out?
Add FibreTel Keepalive — a small battery that lives next to the fibre box and keeps your line alive for about 2 hours after a blackout. The whole reason people still keep a landline is for the moment the power dies. We thought of that.
Does 911 actually know where I live?
Yes. The address you give us at signup is what the dispatcher sees on their screen the second you connect — before you've said a word. Cell phone 911 uses GPS and tower triangulation, which is often wrong by a block. On a fixed line, 911 works the way you'd hope.
Do I need a special phone?
No. Any cordless phone, any old corded phone with a regular RJ11 jack, works. Plug it into any phone jack in the wall.
Can I make international calls?
Yes. International calls bill per minute at standard rates (full list in the portal). Most countries are a couple of cents a minute. US and Canada are always free.
Does it include visual voicemail?
Yes. Voicemails show up in the portal as text — read them, listen to them, or call the voicemail box the old way from any phone. Whichever feels right.
What about call waiting, caller ID, three-way calling?
All in. None of these cost extra. They probably never should have.
Can I run a business line on this?
Not really — this is residential. For extensions, IVR, hunt groups, multiple lines, look at FibreTel Business Voice. Different product, different setup, different price.
