Things people actually ask
Does my building need to have FibreTel internet?
You need to be a FibreTel customer, but Access works with any building that has a standard intercom panel in the lobby. Your building manager updates the intercom directory for your unit — about 30 seconds.
What if my building manager won't do it?
Access won't work for your unit — the intercom panel needs to know to dial the new number when someone presses your unit. In practice this is almost never a problem: it's a one-minute directory change, costs the building nothing, no new hardware. We'll give you a short email template to forward.
Does the building panel need WiFi?
No. The panel works exactly the way it does today — it dials a phone number over whatever line it already uses (analog, VoIP, SIP). The only thing that changes is which number it dials for your unit. Our system answers on the other end and fans the call out to everyone in your household.
How many people can be on one household?
As many as live there. There's no per-person charge — the price is per unit. Add your partner, the kids, the roommate, the mother-in-law who visits on Tuesdays, whoever.
Can I unlock from anywhere?
Yes. The app works over cell or WiFi anywhere. In Tokyo when your Vancouver intercom rings? Notification lands on your phone, tap Unlock from the hotel, door opens. The visitor never knows you're half a world away.
What if someone on my account is sleeping or in a meeting?
Per-person Do Not Disturb in the app — mute for an hour, 8 hours, until tomorrow morning, indefinitely. Their phone stays quiet. Yours still rings.
Do I get a record of who unlocked the door and when?
Yes. Every call shows up in the history tab with timestamp, outcome (granted, missed, DND, denied), which household member tapped Unlock, how fast they responded. Useful for 'hey did the UPS guy come yet' situations.
What about video? I want to see who's at the door.
Access is audio-only — the building's existing intercom doesn't have a camera, so neither do we. For the visual, a Ring / Nest / Aqara doorbell on your unit door handles it. Access is the *building* intercom, not the front door of the unit itself.
Is this the same as 'Connect'?
No — same word, different product. FibreTel Connect is roaming WiFi that auto-joins our hotspots across the city. FibreTel Access is the building intercom on this page. Sorry for the collision. Naming is hard.
