FAQ

Things people actually ask

Wait, this is really free?

Yes. Every FibreTel plan includes Guard at no extra cost and no setup. We run the infrastructure anyway โ€” stopping bad traffic at the edge makes the whole network healthier, so passing the protection through to customers is the obvious move.

Can I turn it off?

No โ€” Guard is part of how the network works, on for everyone. It only blocks confirmed-bad destinations from professional threat intelligence โ€” malware, phishing, hacked infrastructure โ€” so it's very unlikely to ever touch a site you actually want.

What if Guard blocks a site I actually want to visit?

It almost certainly won't โ€” Guard blocks known-bad infrastructure, not content. If you ever hit a block you think is wrong, call us and we'll look at it. There's no self-serve whitelist: nobody can allow-list a bad actor, including by accident.

Does it slow down my internet?

No. Guard runs at the DNS layer, which is already involved in every single request your device makes. The lookup takes microseconds whether Guard is on or off.

What's the difference between Guard and Secure?

Guard filters malicious domains at our network edge for every device on your home WiFi โ€” free, always on. Secure is an always-on VPN that encrypts your traffic end-to-end and works anywhere (home, cafe, airport). Different jobs. Most households run both.

Is Guard Family worth $5/mo?

If you have kids, probably yes โ€” one place to manage content rules across every device in the apartment, without installing anything on their phones. If you don't, the free Guard already does what you need.

Protection you don't have to think about.
