Why Run a Speed Test? #
Running a speed test helps you measure your connection’s performance, including download speed, upload speed, and latency (ping). It’s a quick way to confirm you’re getting the blazing-fast speeds FibreTel promised.
How to Run a Speed Test #
We recommend using speedtest.net for accurate results. Follow these steps:
- Connect to Your FibreTel WiFi or Ethernet
- Make sure you’re connected to your FibreTel network (not a guest network or mobile hotspot).
- For the best results, connect your device directly to your router with an Ethernet cable.
- Visit Speedtest.net
- Open a browser and go to www.speedtest.net.
- Alternatively, download the Speedtest app on your mobile device for a quick test.
- Start the Test
- Click the “Go” button.
- The test will begin, measuring your download and upload speeds, as well as your ping.
- Review the Results
- Download Speed: Measures how fast data is transferred to your device (e.g., for streaming or browsing).
- Upload Speed: Measures how fast data is sent from your device (e.g., for video calls or uploading files).
- Ping (Latency): Measures how quickly your device communicates with the server (lower is better).
What to Expect with FibreTel #
- 1Gbps Plan: If you’re on our 1Gbps plan, your speed test should show near 1,000 Mbps for both download and upload. However, some mobile devices that lack WiFi 7 compatibility or have older WiFi radios may experience lower speeds due to hardware limitations.
- 10Gbps Plan: On our 10Gbps plan, you should see speeds of up to 10,000 Mbps when using a device equipped with a 10Gbps network card and a high-quality Ethernet cable (Cat 6a or better). Ensure you connect your device to the 10Gbps LAN port on your FibreTel WiFi router, clearly labeled for your convenience. WiFi 7 also supports speeds up to 10Gbps, but actual performance will depend on the device and the quality of its WiFi 7 chip.
